Dr. Allespach is an Associate Professor of Clinical Family Medicine, Medicine and Surgery. She is the Director of Behavioral Medicine in the Family Medicine,Internal Medicine and Surgery Residency and Fellowship Programs at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine/Jackson Memorial Hospital. She is also Associate Director of the Multispecialty Learning Communities Intern Initiative at UMMSM/JMH.
Dr Allespach has lectured extensively at national conferences on the use of physician-administered cognitive-behavioral techniques for stress reduction, addictive behaviors and for decreasing depression, anxiety, and pain. She has also published several scientific papers on addiction, nonpharmacologic management of chronic pain, as well as on utilizing cognitive-behavioral, motivational interviewing and stages of change strategies to help physicians deal with difficult patients. In addition, she was the lead author of a medical textbook, “Management of the Addicted Patient in Primary Care” (Pomm & Pomm, Springer: 2007). She has also lectured both nationally and internationally on Health Behavior Change.
