Dr. Alan Briones is a native of the Philippines. After completing medical school at the University of the Philippines in 1996, he pursued Internal Medicine Residency and Chief Residency with the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. He then completed a Geriatrics fellowship and moved to Kentucky to perform primary care in an underserved community. In 2006, he returned to New York to join the faculty of the Division of Hospital Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. At Mount Sinai, he served in leadership roles in medical informatics and medical director of the Preoperative Clinic, his areas of professional interest. His publications range from co-management of surgical patients by hospitalists to clinical topics in Hospital Medicine. His medicine informatics interests include clinical workflow analysis, strategies in implementing clinical systems, app labs, integrating clinical informatics in residency education / curriculum and how EMRs influence culture/ organizational behavior. He joined the Division of Hospital Medicine in August of 2015 and was named Medical Director of Hospital Medicine at the University of Miami Hospital in February 2016. He also recently joined as medical informatics officer of the University of Miami Health System.
