Alan M. Delamater received his PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Georgia in 1981. He is currently professor of pediatrics and director of psychology in the department of pediatrics at the University of Miami, where he has been since 1991. He was previously on the faculty at Washington University and Wayne State University.  Dr. Delamater has received many research grants and has published widely in the field of pediatric psychology, focusing on the psychosocial aspects of diabetes. He has served in leadership roles with several professional organizations; he was president of the Society of Pediatric Psychology (division 54 of the American Psychological Association) in 2007, and was a member of the Advisory Council of the International Society of Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes from 2006-2008.   Dr. Delamater reviews regularly for professional journals and granting agencies,is active as a teacher and clinician, and is board-certified in clinical health psychology.
